This collection contains the papers of several members of the Armistead and Blanton families of Cumberland County, Va. The bulk of the collection consists of accounts, 1856-1900, with Farmville, Va., merchants for the purchase of household goods. Also included is the correspondence, 1860-1869, of Jesse Scott Armistead (1797-1869) of "Woodville," Cumberland County, with friends concerning the Civil War in Virginia and Maryland, and African-American labor problems in Virginia and Maryland immediately after the Civil War.
